Independent insurance brokers

touring artists is not an insurer and does not assume the services of an insurance broker.

Here we explain the differences between independent insurance brokers and insurance agents and give advice on independent insurance brokers in the cultural sector.

According to § 34d GewO (English: trade regulation act- only available in German), in terms of consultations on insurance matters, the market distinguishes between independent insurance brokers and personal producing general agents, insurance agents, etc.   

The difference lies in the statutory representation of interests: 

A personal producing general agent, insurance agent, etc. has to represent the interests of the insurance vis-a-vis the client (seller for the company). 

An independent broker, however, represents the interests of the client vis-a-vis the insurances (buyer for the client).  

If the client makes use of a consultation by an independent insurance broker, he/she will not incur any additional costs if he/she purchases insurance coverage. Since the need for insurance coverage can vary greatly for individual events and projects, especially abroad, it is advisable to take advantage of a consultation. 

Independent insurance brokers usually offer free consultations during which the individual need for and sense of appropriate insurance coverage is determined. Independent insurance brokers are required to find the best deal for the client among all providers. 

Independent research is always helpful in order to gain an overview of the benefits and prices of different insurance companies. The companies often provide online risk questionnaires/questionnaires for determining the insurance amount or the insurance premium.
