Free movement of workers is a fundamental principle of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU, Article 45). EU citizens are entitled to work in another EU country without the need for a work permit and also to reside there, and remain there even after their employment has ended. Furthermore, they must receive equal treatment to that of the nationals of the host country concerning access to employment, working conditions, social benefits, and taxes.
