As of 1 January 2020, all buses used for long-distance bus services in Germany must be accessible and have at least two spaces for wheelchairs. The Federal Ministry for Transport has published a handbook on accessibility in long-distance bus transport.
In cooperation with the National Coordination Office for Tourism for All (Nationale Koordinationsstelle Tourismus für Alle, NatKo), the Federal Association of German Bus and Coach Operators (Bundesverband Deutscher Omnibusunternehmen, bdo) has compiled a directory of accessible coaches in Germany (in German language). The directory lists bus companies with accessible coaches equipped with wheelchair lifts, safety belts, wider aisles, acoustic announcements, etc.
In EU member states you can receive assistance if the route is 250 km or more. Such assistance applies to the journey to and from the bus station, as well as boarding and alighting from the bus. You must contact the bus company, travel agency or tour operator at least 36 hours before departure to request assistance.
